More online contests coming

October 5th, 2011, 3:23 pm · 1 Comment · posted by

Frequent online visitors to the Sun Journal website know that we host current contests in the promotions box below our most current local news stories.

However, most of our past contests have had the following format: either (A) submit a photo and the photo with the most votes wins or (B) enter your contact information and a winner is randomly selected.

The tools we use to build contests offer much more flexibility and just because we only used those two formats in the past, doesn’t mean we have to use them exclusively in the future.

For example, we can do multiple choice trivia-like contests where we quiz users or elimination-based contests where week-by-week users pick the best of something.

We can also integrate on contests into Facebook, allowing you to enter them directly from the Facebook website and use your Facebook account to participate.

Is there a particular kind of contest you’d like to see the Sun Journal do on its website? If so, leave a message in the blog comments or send me an email.

  • Letter: Game fishing bill

In response to the letter “Bad Advice,” Mr. Hitchcock questions the wisdom of the Coastal Conservation Commission giving advice to the legislature on economic issues. He then proceeds to give all of us his advice on the subject. I’d rather listen to the CCA, which received its input on the economic issues surrounding the “game fish bill” from professional economists than from a radio show host in Morehead City. READ MORE

  • Letter: A border of death

As you drive from the Fairfield Harbor traffic light towards New Bern on Highway 55, for the next 2.5 miles you see a border of dead trees that have been killed by the Highway Department spraying herbicide. READ MORE

  • Letter: Radical movements

On a scale of radical organizations between 1 and 10 with MoveOn.Org and the NC Coastal Federation being 10, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service would clearly be at 12. In fact, Wildlife is an appropriate description for the regulators as well as the regulated. READ MORE
